Cleansing Nettle
and Mint Iced Tea
Makes 2 liters
Nettles for Liver Strength
Stinging nettles are a strong liver-supporting herb. Nettles are very rich in iron and have a strong flavour. I pair them with mint to lighten up the flavour and add a more refreshing taste. Mint is a gently stimulating herb, clearing the head, waking up the senses and bringing clarity and focus. It's a great herb on any cleanse.
When and where to get nettles:
Stinging nettles are seasonal in the springtime. If you know where to find, them, you can harvest them yourself. You can also find them fresh at farmer's markets and some stores usually from March-June. Dried ones are always available at herbal apothecaries and health food stores. They may be loose or in tea bags. 1 tea bag usually = 5 grams or 1 teaspoon. The 'sting' comes out once you pour hot water over them.
Ingredients
1/2 cup stinging nettles, dried (if using fresh, use 1 cup, loosely packed)
2 heaping tablespoons dried peppermint OR 6-8 tea bags of peppermint tea (If using fresh mint, use about 1 cup fresh leaves, loosely packed)
1 lemon
1 tsp green leaf stevia (or more to taste) for sweetness
1 Liter water
Ice cubes- 2 trays or 1 liter
Directions:
- Boil water in kettle or pot, pour over herbs in a teapot, bodum or add nettles and mint to the pot after it is taken off the heat.
- Brew tea for at least 5 minutes, longer if you like it stronger.
- Put ice in a pitcher or big jar
- Add stevia to tea and pour over the ice. Squeeze the juice of the lemon in, adding the whole lemon to the pitcher if you like.
- Garnish with fresh mint if you have it.
