Springtime is Cleanse Time!
This post is from guest blogger and fellow Vancouver Wellness Foodie, Muneera Wallace. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Have you thought about your spring detox yet? The winter is a time for indulgence: rich and decadent food, extra sleep, celebrations with drink and such like. The body is amazing in that it will endure all that, and still stay as balanced as possible. |
In the spring, however, as the weather warms, and the ice in the mountains starts melting into gushing streams, our body also starts to release the heaviness that has accumulated in our tissues from the winter. Impurities melt into streams and pour into the micro-channels inside us.
The beginning of spring is when we start to feel the consequences of this natural detox. It may feel like:
·heaviness or aching in the head
·lethargy
·skin rashes or acne breakouts
·unsatisfying bowel movements
·light and restless sleep
·aching joints
·weight gain that's not going away
·general
emotional instability (from all these many factors)
The good news is that there is an easy way to support the body in this natural seasonal detoxification process. Ayurveda suggests we do a simple detox and reset regime.
The Ayurvedic detox is a three-day break based on eating a comforting, yet light and easily digested one-pot meal called Khichari.
Khichari is a nutritionally complete meal made with beans, rice, vegetables, ghee and plenty of herbs and spices. The simple food de-clutters your gut, and lets your body start to rest. It helps soften and lubricate the tissues so they can release their stored impurities. The spices stoke your digestive fire to help burn the impurities as they release. Along with this, you drink lots of warm fluids and digestive teas to flush out the body while maintaining digestion at a potent level.
I will be combining forces with my friend Mithalee of Shorba Broth Bar, to
teach you how to do the Ayurvedic detox and reset. It will be fun, interactive
and you will take home everything you need to do the cleanse!!
In the workshop you will:
- Find your Ayurvedic mind-body type or ‘dosha’
- Understand how to do a 3 day detox and reset customised for YOU
- Watch us prepare (and sample!) the one-pot Ayurvedic detox recipe
- Make your own take-home Cleanse
